TWIB NOTES: 10/7

GRADES, ELIGIBILITY, & SHADOWS
This is the last week of the quarter and an eligibility checkpoint for ALL STUDENTS. Therefore, we will assign shadows on students that are in danger of ineligibility on Tuesday 10/8. A student is considered eligible if they are passing (with a grade of 70 or higher) in all on-level classes. This means that Friday, October 11 means two things:

(1) All students must be eligible by Friday, October 11. Students that lose eligibility will be able to perform on Friday (10/11) and Saturday (10/12), but will not be able to perform the next week. These students will be replaced for the remaining part of the contest season. The next eligibility check-point for failing students is Nov. 4.

(2) Current ineligible students may earn eligibility status after the October 11 checkpoint. Students that regained eligibility can begin performing on Friday, October 18.

We will not have a shadow challenge this week. We will have our next shadow challenge on Wednesday 10/16 at 5:30pm (before our Wednesday evening rehearsal).

GAME 6 (10/11): ALLEN @ PLANO EAST (KIMBROUGH STADIUM)
Please scroll down to see the itinerary for Game 6 on Friday – this is an AWAY GAME and the process is different than a home game. This itinerary will also be posted on www.allenband.com. Call time in the Band Hall or Ensemble Room is 5:00pm. Meals will be provided (Chick-Fil-A Sandwich, water, snacks). If you have specific dietary needs, you should have already filled out the “2019-20 Student Dietary Questionnaire” on www.allenband.com. If you have a large instrument you need to set your instrument by the proper equipment trailer before call time. Our pit bulls will have signs posted to help. You need be at call time ready for inspection: blue uniform shirt, long black socks, black band shoes, gloves, flip folder with music, hair up, no visible jewelry (other than one stud earrings), NO MAKE-UP (BAND), WATER JUG, and instrument in working condition.

CONTEST SEASON STARTS THIS WEEK

Marching contests usually take a large portion of the day. Please reserve the entire Saturday for our three contests. McKinney and Duncanville Contests are a Prelims-Finals format while the UIL Contest is a prelims-only format. A Prelims-Finals format means that the top ten scores after the prelims performance will advance to a finals performance later that evening. Prelims only format, means that there is only one possible performance at that contest. Our return time at the Prelims-Finals shows is based on making finals and leaving after awards. If the band does not place in finals, we will watch bands at finals. Scroll below for itineraries on our three contests.

  • MCKINNEY MARCHING INVITATIONAL: SAT. OCT 12

Call time for the McKinney Marching Invitational is 10:45am – Approximate return is 11:15pm. We ask that students eat a light breakfast before call time. We will have Chick-Fil-A Chicken biscuits for lunch after morning rehearsal, snacks for our after our performance, and Rudys for dinner prior to Finals.

  • UIL REGION 25 MARCHING CONTEST: SAT. OCT 19

Call time for UIL is 8:25am – approximate return time is 2:15pm. We ask that students eat something light before call time. We will have Chick-Fil-A Chicken biscuits after rehearsal.

  • DUNCANVILLE MARCHING INVITATIONAL: SAT. OCT 26

Call time for the Duncanville Marching Invitational is 10:30am – approximate return time is 11:45pm. We ask that students eat a light breakfast before call time. We will have Chick-Fil-A Chicken biscuits for lunch after morning rehearsal, snacks for our after our performance, and Rudys for dinner prior to Finals.

A note on reserves/compline @ contests: All members of the band are required to participate in contests. The reserves will work with a director during rehearsal and during contest warm-up. They will talk about the process, possibly help with props, set-up, and work on focus/discipline routines while the rest of the band is rehearsing. During the performance, the reserve block will stand at set on the front sideline. While this may appear unessential on the surface, this is how the entire band will show their support to their peers. The main objective for the reserve block and Comp Line is to observe and reflect on the contest environment (even though they are not performing) and learn from watching the performances of other bands. Reserves and Comp Line students are held to the same attendance standards as the contest show block/Marching Line. Refer to the band handbook regarding attendance policies.

A WORD ON LOST ITEMS
One of the liabilities of a large program that functions in limited spaces is that everybody’s instrument, music, uniforms, and field jackets all look the same. We have had reports of missing Field jackets. Two requests: (1) Check closets to see if you have YOUR Field jacket. Some jackets have possibly been mistakenly taken. (2) Put student name on everything.
